You'll need:
black felt
brown felt or woollen material
yellow paint
needle and thread
chupa chups or other lollipops

Step one
Cut out a shape like this from your brown material. The split between the head and body is a slit, not an actually wedge removed, like it appears here. I made 8 in total, hence the production line look in some of these photos.

The slit should line up with the other side of the "hood" when folded over.

Step two

Cut out a large square of black felt for the face. It should be at least as large as the top of the lollipop. Lay the felt and wool and lollipop as shown in the lower photo. Fold the top of the hood over the lollipop.

Step three
Pinching the hood closed, and making sure to tuck all the face edges in, secure with needle and thread. Catch the bottom part of the felt square but leave the top free, only tucked in.

Fold the cloak flap over and sew it down, all the way around. Sew up the back of the hood.

Step four
The hood will pull back, and the "face" flip forward to remove the lollipop. If you take care, you should be able to replace the lollipop over and over. Paint some eyes on with yellow.

As you can see, I'm done. Finished. Finito. Tassels and all. Only now Master Four wants one to be "just like Daddy". Oh, and once Master Nine heard his brother was getting a kid sized one, he wanted one too. No rest for the wicked! Think I might give myself a little rest, before embarking on a double scarf quest!
All over bar the shouting now. I've finished the knitting, but as you can see, I have a lot of ends yet to weave in, and the tassels aren't done yet either. But, it's full length and my DP loves it. He's taken to wearing it around the house (and once to the library) despite it's unfinished state, because we've had a recent cold snap, and "It's so cosy and warm". I'm just grateful he really is going to use it, even if it does mean I have to sneak it off him and work on it while he is sleeping.

Getting down to the nitty gritty end now. With 882 rows done, there is only 158 left to go, meaning if I do just 12 rows a day, I'll be done by the 21st! (remembering that these posts are written a week in advance, in case I got sick or busy or something)
So, dragging my feet a little this week, and it took a real effort of will to get myself caught up to the end of the green, where I wanted to be this week. Three quarters done - it's a nice feeling!
This is no fool, I am almost two thirds done. Not quite as far along as I'd hoped, I'm on the seventh of 22 grey rows in this section and I'd wanted to have it finished, but them's the breaks. We've been renovating our lounge room, and not watching as much tv - I actually got none at all done this weekend! :(

It's bumped my daily quota up to 13.7 rows, effectively 14, but a few days of head down, bum up, knitting should get me back on track to an easier pace.

Still plugging along. The massive heat and being sick has put a brake on my speed, but I'm still on track to my goal! Still need to hit around 90 rows a week, which puts me at 13 a day, so not a terrible set back. I've had to start rolling the end of the scarf I'm not working on, so I can cart it around easier, and keep it on my lap still. Whatever works hey?
I made it to the halfway mark! (known to The Scarf knitters as "the fold" due to the folded icon of the scarf in the original pattern)
This epic push means I can make it to my goal of being finished by the 21st of April by doing just over 12 rows a day - it'll be nice to have a little less pressure!
Managed to sneak in an extra 30 rows this week, on top of my 13 daily, bringing me up to 250. That brings my daily required rows down to 12 and a half, only I'll need to be done before the 28th really, so I have time to tassel. So if I give myself the final week to weave in ends and add tassels, I'm actually at 14 rows a day. *le sigh* Better get back to it then!SilverMoon Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05306496571304288996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3847959538049369274.post-27990398188884417332013-02-25T19:18:00.000+11:002013-02-25T19:18:00.209+11:00Progress report: week twoStill on track.
Been getting my 13 rows a day in, so I'm up to row 129. Not much has changed from last week really, not ahead or behind, so I'll give a progress picture and leave it at that.

I've submitted this scarf as a dissertation for Nerd Wars, that nutty fiber arts game I play in the forums on Ravelry. A dissertation is a big project that takes place over all three months of a tournament, not just completed in one of the month long rounds. I figured if I was going to do such a massive project on top of my regular projects I may as well try and get some points for it, lol.

The pattern I'm using has 1040 rows. There are 11 weeks from today until dissertations need to be finished, for full points. (If I don't get it done in time for Nerd Wars, I still have until June before I need to give it to DP) I've done 35 rows so far. So that's 1005 rows, plus weaving in ends and tassels, left to finish. This week was only a partial week of knitting, as I set up my blogging posts for scheduling, so I only had 4 days, plus other projects to work on it. Seems like just over 91 rows a week isn't too much of a stretch then - I'll see how I'm going with the math on that next week!SilverMoon Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05306496571304288996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3847959538049369274.post-24755010814800715942013-02-14T19:06:00.000+11:002013-02-14T20:46:14.820+11:00Happy Valentine's Day!Something a little different and special for you today. DP doesn't really get into the mooshy and commercial holidays like Valentine's, so we aren't celebrating. Instead, I made a little mixtape for all my followers, chock full of geeky love songs! I think you need Spotify to play this, but I'm hoping it will play straight from the embedding, or that you won't mind getting yourself an awesome, free, streaming music player.

Without Further ado, please enjoy...
I've gone and promised my other half a Tom Baker Doctor Who season 12 scarf, that's what I've done. Our tenth anniversary is coming up, and that's a good as reason as any to do craziness with yarn, so here goes. I figured I may as well blog about it, because if I'm accountable for my progress to all of you followers, like I was with the tetris blanket, there's a better chance I'll keep it up, and actually finish this thing on time.

For those unfamiliar with this monstrosity parading as a scarf, here's a photo:

The colours are a little faded, being that it's an old photo, and my colours aren't perfect, I'll admit, but I did the best I could.

Here's my yarn. I have changed the purple out to one a little less red though, since that picture. - now... best I get to it!

You may have noticed I didn't post last week. I've been feeling a little like that kitten, and there is still commissions and holiday gifts to hook up, so I've decided to give the blogging a break for the Xmas period. I'll be back here early next year, but I'll still be active on our Facebook page, with Flash Game Friday, Showcase Sunday, and sneak peeks of upcoming projects and things.

I'll be updating the store soon too, as soon as I get a minute to myself with good lighting (Seriously sun, you don't have to hide as soon as December starts and Summer officially begins you know!) so there will be new goodies to snaffle there.

If you have a project you'd like to see done, or something you'd like me to share, or a game you'd like to play (guess what I'm hooking was popular) contact me via Facebook, and I'll do my best to help you out. Hopefully at some point over the holidays I'll build my post buffer back up again, and gaps like these won't happen when I get busy.

Have a great holidays everyone, and, provided the Mayans were wrong, I'll see you all back here next year :DSilverMoon Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05306496571304288996noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3847959538049369274.post-42994993128533505902012-11-22T19:05:00.000+11:002012-11-22T19:05:01.031+11:00Lara Fire Brigade Christmas Market

Just a quick not while I'm busying hooking up little goodies, we'll be at the Lara Fire Brigade Christmas Market on Saturday, outside the Lara Bowls club, so if there's anything you'd like to pick up in person, this the best time to do so! I don't have any more markets planned before Christmas at this point, and my commissions have closed for the season, so best to get in quick. I have a few new things that I haven't sold before, as well as some best sellers, and all very reasonbly priced too!

</vr>
I'll also have free noise makers for the kids (while stocks last :P)
Got a little restless the other night, watching a movie with my hands doing nothing, so I thought I'd try my hand at crocheting with beads/stones and yarn, instead of wire. Took the entire movie just to string the stones onto my yarn though, and only ten minutes to whip up this cute wrap bracelet, so I made a few more, without the stones. This one below that Miss Seven is modelling for me uses a croc charm as a button, and it's so adorably cute I'm going to have to make more!
I prefer to use a popcorn stitch instead of a bobble stitch, and front and back post stitches instead of FLO and BLO, but it works as written. The one on the left is done to the pattern, on the right is my modified version. Remember that this is UK terminology, so when it says DC, it means SC.

I was on a bit of a Totoro kick, because really, who doesn't love Totoro, who has seen it? Both are free patterns, but the Totoro is a Rav download while the Soot Sprites are an online link.

I put a magnet in the back of my Soot Sprite so it can live on my fridge :D

I had a few hours to kill the other morning - too long to sit around, but not long enough to properly start an ami project, so I thought I'd try my hand at crocheting with wire. I had a strand of beautiful blue goldstone pieces, just perfect for the delicate base of chained wire. First off I made a bracelet. It's a lot prettier than the photos make it out to be, Blue Goldstone is hard to capture.

Then I added in some seed beads, and made a necklace - I fear it may be addictive, this jewellery making thing...

Yep, throughly addictive - but I had to make earrings to complete the set didn't I?

Knitting is cool.

So, for my first ever knitting project, I sure picked a doozy. 80" of garter stitch. Admittedly on 12mm needles, but it still seemed to take forever. I'm thoroughly in love with garter stitch though.

It's just a long rectangle, with either end seamed to make sleeves - a scarf with sleeve, but surprisingly versatile. Not sure you'd need the free pattern from the Lion Brand website, but they do have a few better photos on how to wear it than I do.
